Discover yourself
Discoveries are made by discoverers. The yearning for the things indispensable but hitherto unknown leads us to the books and the teachers. We want to – and we should – gain an insight into ourselves, but only a scholar can help in gaining such an insight.
Psychologist is the Ancient Greek for “scholar of the soul”, psychotherapist – for “caretaker of the soul”. Thousands of people use these words as appellations for their qualification or occupation, but only few of them are masters of the art of understanding and transforming the soul. These few are
- high-level specialists recognized by the professional community;
- psychologists and psychotherapists of the humanistic and transpersonal schools, aiming at self-actualization of a person – that is, a successful realization of the talents, inclinations and creative ambitions – rather than adaptation (truncation of the individual to match the societal templates);
- fully formed, harmonious, highly developed personalities who have achieved themselves what they are teaching others.
Opening oneself and others is also promoted by the atmosphere of openness, attention and trust – the atmosphere of warm and spontaneous communication and creative innocence, without barriers and preconditions. One of our key tasks is to create such an atmosphere and a community of people connected by friendship, mutual understanding and mutual support. Abraham Maslow called such a community a therapeutic environment, which develops, heals and perfects a person.
The great Arthur Janov wrote: “to love is to let the beloved be him- or herself”. A fellowship of like-minded people is an opportunity presenting one of the paths or steps towards unity with oneself, self-concordance, self-discovery and self-realization.
