Folk crafts shop
This shop has educational aims to acquaint participants with Lithuanian traditional crafts - and, through them, to come in touch and feel the taste of traditional life and folk spirit. The most important branches of national crafts are ceramics, weaving from wicker and straw and these crafts date back from pagan times. Arranging bouquets from dried flowers goes back to the beginning of Christianity. Those bouquets were specially made for Easter - and the process of their creation was important ritual-like part of Easter celebrations, sign and embodiment of faith. Felting wool and making items of it is also an old tradition. Children at any age - and their parents also - could be acquainted with these crafts and all of them can easily make all ware.
Crafts atelier would work all three days. Studies would last two-three hours in the morning and in the afternoon.
One of the days would be for ceramics and its technique: modeling from one piece of clay, modeling using rope technique, putting together separate parts and decoration. It would be modeling little items of clays such as plates and dishes, mugs or pictures.
The second day would be weaving from straw, dried grass, or flowers, bending a wisp of hay, fastening it with a strong thread and making shapes of birds, animals, dolls etc. Weaving straws, getting a narrow or wide band, making a bookmark, a vase or a hat, putting dried grass and flowers to a stick and fastening them together and getting a dried flower bouquet.
The third day is dedicated to the techniques of felting wool. Children and adults with the help of teacher will be able to make a wool ball, a bracelet or a string of wool- ball beads or a brooch and decorate it.
After studies all participants will have a possibility to express their impressions on different size of paper sheets with pencils and crayons of different colors - and to share impressions and feelings.
The price for participating - 20 euro per person per day.
